Is anyone actually running Solid in production? Yes, and none of it is ours

Somebody is, and it is not us. solid-protocol is not-built on our side, and every deployment named on this page belongs to another organisation with no connection to Solidus.

This page exists because the question is a fair one (a protocol with no production users is a research project) and because the honest answer helps Solid and does nothing for us.

What is publicly reported, graded by age

From 2020, in mainstream press coverage: the BBC, NatWest, the UK's NHS and the Government of Flanders were named as early adopters working with Inrupt on Solid deployments, media recommendations, banking, patient data, and a citizen data programme respectively.

Grade that honestly. It is five years old, and we did not check what any of those organisations is doing now. An announced pilot and a running system are different things, and time turns some of the first into neither. We are not going to reprint a 2020 list as though it described 2026.

What is reported more recently, and it is more specific

From 2025: Athumi, a Flemish data-utility company, and the staffing firm Randstad are reported to have taken an end-to-end HR use case, "My Career", into a Solid production environment.

SolidLab Flanders is a publicly funded, multi-year research and implementation programme, and the Flemish citizen-profile programme aimed at roughly 6.5 million people is described as in progress rather than complete.

The more recent material is the better evidence, it names a use case, an operator and a partner, rather than an intention. And it still comes from the parties involved and their press, not from an independent audit, which is where evidence about anyone's deployments usually sits.

Why "in progress, not complete" is the interesting part

A programme aimed at millions of citizens that is years in and not finished is not a criticism. It is the realistic shape of this kind of work. Personal data infrastructure at national scale takes longer than a product launch, and anyone promising otherwise has not tried it.

We are pointing at it because it sets the correct expectation for this whole field, ours included, and because a page that only quoted the completed parts would be doing the thing this estate exists to avoid.

What none of this proves about us

Somebody else's production deployment is not our evidence.

Those deployments say the Solid protocol can carry real workloads, that Inrupt's and Athumi's engineering works, and that a government was willing to fund the attempt. They say nothing about our integration layer, our identifier method, or our chain.

The gap between those two sentences is the honest subject of this page.

What we would have to do to appear on a list like this

1. One unaffiliated organisation running something of ours in production. Zero today.
2. A third-party interoperation check against another implementation.
3. An external security audit.

We would rather write that sentence than a case study we do not have.
